Postdoctoral Position in Marine Microbial Ecology – The role of trace metals for Phytoplankton-Bacteria Interactions
We have an opening for a postdoctoral researcher to investigate the role of trace metals, with a focus on iron (Fe), for phytoplankton-bacteria interactions. We are looking for a microbial ecologist motivated in elucidating the mechanistic understanding of how different forms of Fe regulate these interactions. The postdoctoral researcher will have the possibility to address this question through complementary approaches. The responses of phytoplankton and bacterial model organisms to well-defined sources of Fe will be investigated under controlled laboratory conditions. We further provide access to already sequenced metagenomes and metatranscriptomes from incubation experiments carried with natural Southern Ocean communities during the project MARGO (Matter of glacial origin and its fate in the ocean: a case study at Kerguelen Island; https://margo.obs-banyuls.fr/index.php/fr/).
The successful candidate will join the team of the recently funded project PIANO (Prokaryote-phytoplankton interactions in Antarctic ice sheet melting environments: the key role of iron, French ANR) and benefit from all infrastructure and equipment to successfully carry out the work (e.g. trace metal clean laboratory, flow cytometry and microscopy, access to server space). Experience in culturing work as well as good knowledge in high-throughput sequencing data analysis are preferred, but are not a requirement.
The postdoctoral researcher will be hosted by the LOMIC (http://lomic.obs-banyuls.fr; Ingrid Obernosterer) and the LOG (https://log.cnrs.fr/; Urania Christaki).
This a 2-year position; the starting date can be as early as January 2025.
Review of applications will start immediately and until the position is filled.
